RULES OF ARENA FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Field rules:

The rules for arena football league are based on many criteria. One of them is the field rule. The arena field has to be a padded surface, 85 feet wide and 50 yards long with 8 yard end zones. The goal posts have to be 9 feet wide with the height of the crossbar being 15 feet. The rebound nets at the goal post have to be 30 feet wide and the crossbar has to be 10 feet. The bottom of the nets has to be 8 feet above the ground. The barriers at the sideline have to be 48 inches high and made of high density foam rubber.

Kicking Rules:

Kickoffs are always from the goal line. The kickers are allowed to use a one inch tee. Punting is considered illegal. The receiving team is allowed to field any kickoff or missed field goal that has rebounded from the net. Any kickoff that has gone untouched and is out of bounds is placed at the 20 yard line or, at the place where it went out of bounds. If the kickoff goes over the end zone, but at the same time stays in bounds, then the ball will come out to the 5 yard line. This process is also true, if the missed field goal goes beyond the end zone but from under the net.

Timing Rules:

The rules for timing in arena football are as the prescribed guidelines of the league. There are four quarters of 15 minutes each with a 15 minutes half time. For out-of-bound plays, the clock stops only in the last minute of each half or only when, the referee thinks it is necessary for the purpose of penalty shootouts. This holds true even for incomplete passes, injuries and timeouts. Each team is allowed only three timeouts per every half.
